India and Denmark are exploring opportunities to expand bilateral trade, investment and industrial cooperation across key sectors. Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Mr. Piyush Goyal held discussions with Denmark’s Minister for Business and Competitiveness, Mr. Martin Lidegaard, focusing on greater economic engagement and mutually beneficial partnerships for businesses in both countries. The discussions come amid growing interest among Danish companies in the Indian market. Around 250 Danish companies currently operate in India, employing more than 100,000 people. Mr. Martin Lidegaard also indicated that investment interest remained strong even before the proposed free trade agreement (FTA), with approximately 75% of the companies indicating plans to increase their investments in India.

The meeting builds on the longstanding economic partnership between India and Denmark, particularly in renewable energy and clean technologies. During his visit to New Delhi, Mr. Martin Lidegaard also met Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Mr. Pralhad Joshi to discuss cooperation in offshore wind energy, green hydrogen and renewable energy integration. The discussions highlighted opportunities to strengthen collaboration in wind energy development and other clean energy technologies. The latest engagement with Mr. Piyush Goyal broadens the scope of bilateral cooperation to include trade, investment and industrial partnerships, with both countries seeking to create further opportunities for businesses and deepen their economic ties.
