The United Kingdom has announced more than Rs. 12,500 crore (US$ 1.32 billion) in new commercial deals with India, strengthening bilateral trade and investment ties following the implementation of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) on July 15, 2026. Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Piyush Goyal, and the UK's Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Mr. Jonathan Reynolds, co-chaired the 16th meeting of the India-UK Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) in New Delhi on October 12, 2026. The announcement coincided with the arrival of a UK trade delegation comprising more than 100 businesses and representatives from regional governments. The deals cover sectors including aviation services, artificial intelligence, healthcare, advanced communications and engineering.
The meeting focused on maximizing business opportunities under CETA and strengthening cooperation between companies in both countries. The two sides agreed to exchange data annually on businesses' use of the agreement, including claims for preferential tariffs and feedback on implementation, beginning one year after it entered into force. The UK trade mission also aims to attract investment, secure contracts for regional businesses and create jobs. Among the announced initiatives, Meta for Data Technologies is investing in artificial intelligence research in the UK, while other deals span infrastructure, engineering and technology. The two countries also agreed to deepen cooperation in services, innovation, science and technology, and regional business partnerships to help companies benefit from improved market access.
