According to data from the central government, among all the States and UTs, Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the top consumer of goods and services from the government e-marketplace portal (GeM). The statistics showed that during the previous fiscal year, the Uttar Pradesh government and its agencies made purchases from the GeM platform totalling US$ 1.47 billion (Rs. 12,152 crore).
It was followed by Gujarat US$ 968.5 million (Rs. 7,964 crore), Maharashtra US$ 502.3 million (Rs. 4,130 crore), Jammu and Kashmir US$ 243.1 million (Rs. 1,999 crore), and Madhya Pradesh US$ 241.2 million (Rs. 1,983 crore). This fiscal year, the total amount spent on buying products and services through GeM has surpassed US$ 24 billion (Rs. 2 lakh crore) due to a rise in purchasing activity by various ministries, departments, and states.
More than 63,000 government purchasing institutions have been able to access a variety of goods and services through GeM, and more than 6 crore sellers and service providers offer a wide range of products and services.
In 2022-23, the power ministry ranked first among the central government departments in terms of GeM purchases. The ministry spent US$ 3.71 billion (Rs. 30,572.9 crore) on goods and services. It was followed by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Steel Ministry, and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
