The Government of India has significantly increased funding for the Vigyan Dhara scheme, reinforcing its commitment to scientific research, innovation, and technological development. The budget allocation has risen from Rs. 330.75 crore (US$ 38.21 million) in FY25 to Rs. 1,425 crore (US$ 164.63 million) in FY26, with a total outlay of Rs. 10,579.84 crore (US$ 1.22 billion) for FY22 to FY26 under the 15th Finance Commission. Launched on January 16, 2025, Vigyan Dhara integrates three key schemes focusing on scientific capacity building, research & development (R&D), and innovation & technology deployment. It supports advanced research laboratories, international scientific collaborations, and technology commercialisation, fostering stronger partnerships between academia, industry, and government.
The scheme also promotes gender parity in science and technology (S&T) and encourages women’s participation through targeted programs. As of March 2025, 57,869 beneficiaries have availed of its benefits, including students aged 10-15 under the INSPIRE-MANAK initiative. In Telangana, Rs. 3.3 crore (US$ 3,81,018) has benefited 4,002 individuals. Additionally, India has seen a consistent rise in scientific publications, supported by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), research fellowships, and extramural project funding. The scheme aligns with India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, aiming to establish India as a global leader in science and technology while promoting inclusive participation and sustainable development.
