Volkswagen India has commenced production of the new Taigun at its Pune manufacturing facility as a significant step towards its premium compact SUV strategy in India. The production process of the latest Taigun is planned to start just before the official unveiling of the product. As a part of its ongoing effort towards refreshing its India portfolio, Volkswagen is introducing its latest Taigun, considering consumer demands in the mid-size SUV category. The latest Taigun will continue to be manufactured on the same platform, MQB A0 IN, which has played a pivotal role in Volkswagen's India 2.0 strategy and has seen massive localisation by the company.
The new model of Taigun will help the Volkswagen Group in enhancing its competition against its major competitors in the segment of compact SUV segment through improved styling and features, along with continued TSI powertrain options. Pre-bookings are likely to start soon, followed by the delivery of vehicles from the month of May 2026. The launch of vehicle production will also help in utilising the advantages of localisation and economies of scale from the state-of-the-art plant located in Chakan, which is amongst the most advanced plants for the Volkswagen Group in India, with the capability to produce around 200,000 units per annum.
