The President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Walmart Inc., Mr. Doug McMillon spoke to Indian suppliers and partners, emphasising the company's focus on the Indian market to create an ecosystem of suppliers and partners, including small and medium enterprises, to meet its goal of exporting made in India goods worth US$10 billion annually by 2027.
Alongside ongoing Walmart initiatives like the Flipkart Samarth and Walmart Vriddhi supplier development programmes in India, the objective was to support the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) producers.
The company mentioned that it met with suppliers, merchants, grantees, artisans, and the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) across key India programs and initiatives of the company in India including Walmart Sourcing, Walmart Vriddhi, Flipkart and Flipkart Samarth, PhonePe, Walmart Marketplace, Walmart Global Tech in India, and the Walmart Foundation. It further stated that their business can support India’s growth by creating jobs, strengthening communities, and accelerating India’s progress as a manufacturing destination.
Along with having expertise in logistics and supply chain management, Walmart works in the wholesale cash-and-carry industry, e-commerce, payments, and financial services verticals in the nation. To help Indian manufacturers sell their goods in foreign markets like the US, Canada, Mexico, Central America, and the UK, the company established its global sourcing office in Bengaluru back in 2002.
