The year 2025 brought several remarkable milestones for Western Railway, marking its commitment to electrification, infrastructure upgrade, safety initiatives, and digital transformation. This zone indeed completed 100% electrification of the broad-gauge network, with its commitment toward greener and energy-efficient operations in line with the national objectives on sustainability. This constituted a factor that contributed to an impressive 97% punctuality of Mail and Express services, showcasing an improvement in operational planning, real-time monitoring, and reliability in services. Digital transformation was also in strong stride, especially with the deployment of 2,270 Hand-Held Terminals (HHTs), which enabled 100% digital ticket checking, while Western Railway remained atop the Rail Madad grievance redressal platform for the fifth consecutive year. In the realm of safety, too, it was a major boost, with the construction of 138 Road Over and Under Bridges, elimination of 114 level crossings, and the installation of 660 km of W-beam fencing, seriously bolstering passenger and operational safety in the entire network.
Western Railway also highlighted its rich heritage, inclusivity, and community interaction through events to commemorate architectural heritage and passenger connectivity. The year also witnessed various life-saving efforts by Railway Protection Force staff: saving 37 lives in Operation Jeevan Raksha and rescuing 769 children in Operation Nanhe Farishtey, reflecting a sense of good public safety. On the infrastructural front, the big-ticket news was the opening of the Loco Manufacturing Shop at Dahod, costing Rs. 21,405 crore (US$ 2.58 billion), for manufacturing 9,000 HP electric freight locomotives under the Make in India scheme. Commissioning India’s first 2×25 kV traction system on the Khachrod–Nagda section was another technological leap, thus enabling higher speeds, energy efficiency, and future readiness in rail operations.
