On Tuesday, ed-tech firm WhiteHat Jr announced a collaboration with satellite company EnduroSat, which will enable students to participate in applied science projects.
The partnership between WhiteHat Jr and EnduroSat will empower students to conduct applied science research by sending commands to and receiving data from a satellite in space.
WhiteHat Jr founder and CEO, Mr. Karan Bajaj said in a statement, “We've always believed in the transformative potential of discovery in the creation process. This collaboration exemplifies our mission of inspiring children to look beyond and, quite literally, reach for the stars.”
The plan aims for a satellite launch in December 2021 with a payload dedicated to WhiteHat Jr that will provide learners with innovative space-related learning opportunities.
Also, WhiteHat Jr students would have access to a satellite that will be launched on a trial basis in June 2021. According to the statement, both satellites will use the SpaceX Falcon 9 rideshare.
Every satellite will have over 30 sensors, including infrared, temperature, sun sensor, gyroscope, and others.
The accelerated learning opportunities for students will be limitless, ranging from evaluating sensor data to transmitting messages back and forth.
As per the statement, “On WhiteHat Jr's payload computer, students will be able to engage in various forms of orchestrating space data (a Raspberry Pi 4 with a direct link to the main onboard computer).”
WhiteHat Jr reports to have over 175,000 students, with 11,000 of them being women.
EnduroSat founder and CEO, Mr. Raycho Raychev said, “We're delighted to be working with WhiteHat Jr. This is the first mission through which a collaborator has completely committed to promoting children's education from an early age. EnduroSat has long called for democratizing space education and making it open to all through our own Spaceport Academy.”
