WHO hails India's G20 Presidency and says it should be a beacon for others

India’s presidency at the G20 Health Working Group meeting was termed an ‘exciting moment in history’. The Special Envoy, ACT-Accelerator, World Health Organization (WHO), Ms. Ayoade Alakija said it has supported the voice of the Global South and added that she is keen to watch the Global South collaborations which can be put together in the new world.

India’s G20 presidency is an exciting moment in history as it will decide the global health architecture for the next many decades, she said. Adding to it, she said that the world is coming to India not only for discussions but also to learn from the digital transformation which is taking place in the various sectors including health, infrastructure, and finance in the country. The ongoing meeting that concluded recently will be a platform on how the areas are learned in this Global South-in Africa, India, Latin America, and so on.

The Director of Digital Health and Innovation, WHO, Dr. Alain Labrique mentioned that India today and five years back has a very huge difference. He said that India should be shining as a beacon for other countries to learn from.
