Women farmers key for making Indian agriculture self-reliant: Govt

According to the government, women are the foundation of the Indian agriculture sector, and their contributions are critical in making the sector self-sufficient.

On Monday, two union ministers of state for agriculture, Mr. Parshottam Rupala and Mr. Kailash Choudhary, spoke about women's contribution in every sector including agriculture, at a virtual event hosted by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to commemorate International Women's Day.

Mr. Rupala emphasized the central government's numerous schemes aimed at empowering women in all aspects of life, while Mr. Choudhary praised women's contributions to agriculture and farming.

According to an ICAR statement, Mr. Choudhary highlighted the importance of women's participation in achieving the goal of doubling farmers' income.

According to ICAR Director General Mr. Trilochan Mohapatra said, “Women are the pillar of Indian agriculture. Their contributions are critical to the agricultural sector's success.”

He added, “The Council is dedicated to developing women's leadership in the agricultural and farming sectors.”

Madhya Pradesh MLA, Ms. Archana Chitnis emphasized the importance of providing food protection and quality education to women who work in agriculture.
