Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Textiles, Mr. Piyush Goyal, stated that the government is drafting legislation to decriminalise specific sections in order to facilitate conducting business. According to him, a bill in this regard is anticipated to be tabled during the upcoming winter session of the Parliament.
The minister urged the industry to "quickly" give feedback on reducing compliances and decriminalising unnecessary sections. "We are currently working on many additional regulations. DPIIT (Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade) is pushing this in collaboration with other ministries," he added.
Despite current global uncertainty, India remains a "shining star" in the world and the "fastest" rising economy, he stated. Regarding free trade agreements, the minister stated that these accords benefit both trading partners and that domestic industry should abandon its "protectionist mindset."
