Walmart is advancing its commitment to source goods worth Rs. 86,030 crore (US$ 10 billion) annually from India by 2027, according to the Chief Executive Officer and President, Walmart Inc., Mr. Doug McMillon during his recent two-day visit to India. The United States (US) based retail giant, which established its global sourcing office in Bengaluru in 2002, has already sourced over Rs. 2,58,090 crore (US$ 30 billion) worth of products from India in the past two decades. He said the company's sourcing footprint in India has expanded significantly beyond its initial limited categories, now spanning apparel, food, toys, and more.

During his visit, he engaged with Indian suppliers and toured initiatives that spotlight Walmart’s India growth story, ranging from exports and digital innovation to inclusive supply chains and community empowerment. He also interacted with micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) trained under Walmart Vriddhi, the firm’s supplier development programme, which has trained over 70,000 MSMEs since its launch in 2019. Walmart aims to onboard 1,00,000 more MSMEs over the next three years through this initiative. He praised the progress of Walmart’s India-based ventures Flipkart and PhonePe, citing them as examples of innovation, digital inclusion, and entrepreneurial growth. Inspired by Vriddhi’s success in India, Walmart has also introduced similar programmes in Mexico and the US, further cementing its commitment to building resilient global supply chains with India as a strategic hub.
