As India takes over the G20 presidency, the world expects it to mobilise genuine efforts to deliver on the 2030 Development Agenda and the Paris Climate Agreement, according to UN Secretary-General Mr. Antonio Guterres. In his presentation to a special India@75 event on Showcasing the India-UN Partnership in Action, the UN Secretary-General emphasised that India, as the home of the world's biggest youth generation, will be critical to the success of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The event was organised here by the Government of India and the United Nations to showcase India's engagement with the UN, South-South Cooperation, development path, and accomplishments in its 75th year of independence. In his address, He stated that India had made extraordinary progress in equitable and sustainable development over the previous 75 years, pulling over 270 million people out of abject poverty and growing to become the world's fifth-largest economy. He stated that all areas of society have benefited, including health, education, food security, and climate change.
UN Deputy Secretary-General Ms. Amina Mohammed stated, "As India inherits the presidency of the G20, we expect India to mobilise credible steps to deliver on the 2030 Agenda, Addis Ababa Agreement, and Paris Agreement."
