Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Mr. Ajay Tamta, recently engaged in a landmark dialogue with experts from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) Delhi, and industry partners, emphasising that India’s future infrastructure must be driven by innovation, safety integration, and context-sensitive planning. The event showcased cutting-edge road safety solutions, advanced planning frameworks, and cost-effective designs poised to revolutionise road construction and management in India. He highlighted that, under the vision of Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s Viksit Bharat 2047 initiative, infrastructure development is pivotal to India’s transformation into a developed nation, shaping corridors that spur industrial growth, urbanisation, digital connectivity, and citizen well-being.
Calling for a shift from reactive construction to proactive, innovation-led planning, he stressed that road projects should be integrated, multi-sectoral development tools rather than standalone engineering tasks. He advocated for indigenised design models tailored to India’s unique geography, climate, population density, and behavioural patterns, rather than adopting Western templates. He reviewed novel concepts such as multi-directional free traffic flow models, hotspot-based safety designs, and door-to-door mobility systems utilising a no-app, no-Uniform Resource Locator (URL), Private Internet Fidelity (PiFi) technology for affordable and efficient public transit. He emphasised transparent governance in project planning and urged Centres of Excellence (CoEs) to incubate interdisciplinary innovations. He praised IIT Delhi and SPA Delhi for leading this initiative and called on other academic and industry stakeholders to collaborate in nation-building through intelligent infrastructure development.
