  • Conscious guest experiences: Many trains now offer optional programmes according to travellers’ interest towards sustainability, such as visiting rural eco-friendly villages, heritage conservation projects, and wildlife sanctuaries that practice responsibility while travelling.

Through these initiatives, luxury trains are redefining opulence while balancing indulgence with responsibility. Not just with their grand interiors or royal dining but through thoughtful, conscious experiences, which respect both the planet and people.

Role of IRCTC and state partnerships in the resurgence of railway tourism

Role of IRCTC and state partnerships in the resurgence of railway tourism

Economic impact and government push

The revival of railway tourism in India mainly comes from its strong economic benefits and solid government backing. Luxurious heritage trains and new themed routes, such as those under the Bharat Gaurav initiative, play a key role in boosting domestic tourism and energising regional economies. Tourists using these routes help generate local income by spending on activities, places to stay, meals, and shopping, thereby leading to broader economic growth. This fits well with the 'Dekho Apna Desh' initiative, which encourages people to explore India. This, in turn, supports local economies and creates jobs. Additionally, the 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' scheme uses these trips to foster cultural unity and appreciation for India's rich heritage. Beyond general tourist spending, these efforts create both direct and indirect jobs for local communities and support small and medium-sized enterprises. For example, the "One Station One Product" scheme connects railway tourism with local artisans and craftsmen by offering sales outlets at stations, helping them succeed and preserving local crafts. This strong policy support and economic boost position railway tourism as a crucial driver for sustainable growth across the country.
