Who thought banning plastic bags by the municipal corporation of Mangalore could spark the thought of creating eco-friendly products. Well, Mr Aswath Hegde, founder, EnviGreen Biotech Private Limited did. With a passion to preserve the environment and perseverance to achieve it, he and his friends created a 100 per cent biodegradable product, an alternate for plastic bags. These products are completely eco-friendly since it dissolves quickly in hot water and decomposes soon under natural conditions. The Government of India’s initiatives like ‘Make in India’ and ‘Swachh Bharat’ too helps in creating awareness about such products.

Till date, they have invested Rs 76 crore (US$ 11.8 million) and made 12 products. After launching in Qatar in 2016, they expanded to Middle East and Southeast Asian markets. EnviGreen’s important clients in India are Reliance Retail, METRO Cash & Carry, Godrej and Havells. Currently, they only cater to businesses and soon plan to supply to individuals. They also plan to enter the European Markets within three months.
