Chhattisgarh is in the central part of India. The state shares its border with Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra in the west, Uttar Pradesh in the north, Odisha and Jharkhand in the east, and Andhra Pradesh in the south.
At current prices, the total GSDP of Chhattisgarh was estimated to reach Rs. 6.35 trillion (US$ 74.43 billion) in FY26. The state’s GSDP (in Rs.) increased at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.92% from FY16 to FY26.
It is among the richest Indian states in terms of mineral wealth, with 28 varieties of major minerals, including diamonds. In FY26 (April-August 2025), Chhattisgarh accounted for 13.1% of the total value of mineral production in India.
Total merchandise exports from Chhattisgarh stood at Rs. 19,421 crore (US$ 2.19 billion) in FY25. Rice, iron ore, electronic goods and engineering goods were the main export products contributing to the state’s merchandise exports.
Natural resources, policy incentives and infrastructure in the state support investment in iron and steel, cement, and power sectors. Korba district in Chhattisgarh is known as the power capital of India. Moreover, considerable reserves of bauxite, limestone and quartzite are available in the state, making it the ideal location for low-cost production of end products such as cement and aluminium.
According to the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), FDI inflow to the state totalled Rs. 1,238 crore (US$ 139.63 million) from October 2019-June 2025.
According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Chhattisgarh had 22 million wireless and 0.33 million wireline subscribers as of June 2025. Tele-density in Chhattisgarh stood at 72.09% in this period.
As of September 2025, Chhattisgarh had a total installed power generation capacity of 15,036.40 MW, comprising 10,036.53 MW under private utilities, 1,995.95 MW under state utilities, and 3,003.92 MW under central utilities.
At the Chhattisgarh Energy Investors Summit 2025, the state secured investment proposals exceeding Rs. 3 lakh crore (US$ 34.36 billion) across nuclear, thermal, solar, and pumped storage projects to boost power capacity, promote renewable energy, and position itself as a key energy hub in India.
Chhattisgarh is making significant investments in industrial infrastructure. Chhattisgarh State Industrial Development Corporation (CSIDC) has set up industrial growth centres, seven industrial parks and three integrated infrastructure development centres (IIDC). The state has a notified special economic zone (SEZ) in Rajnandgaon District. As of February 2020, the state had two formally approved SEZs.
Below are some of the major initiatives taken by the Government to promote Chhattisgarh as an investment destination:
- On July 11, 2025, the Chhattisgarh Cabinet approved the Student Start-up and Innovation Policy aimed at fostering a student-centric innovation ecosystem. The policy targets reaching 50,000 students across 100 technical institutions, supporting 500 prototypes, filing 500 intellectual property rights and incubating 150 start-ups, with special emphasis on agriculture, green energy, healthcare and manufacturing, including establishment of innovation centres in tribal regions.
- On October 25, 2025, Chhattisgarh announced plans to form an integrated capital region covering Raipur, Nava Raipur, Bhilai and Durg. The decision was approved through legislation during the monsoon session and formally notified this month. The plan divides the region into nine development zones with a focus on education, healthcare, information technology and other priority sectors under the state’s “Chhattisgarh Anjor 2047” vision.
- Allotment under the State Budget FY26
- Rs. 7,186 crore (US$ 842.3 million) was allocated for roads and bridges.
- Rs. 947 crore (US$ 111.0 million) has been allocated towards Naya Raipur Atal Nagar Vikas Pradhikaran
- Rs. 5,394 crore (US$ 632.3 million) has been allocated for higher secondary schools and Rs. 5,859 crore (US$ 686.8 million) has been allocated to Government primary schools.
- Rs. 1,850 crore (US$ 216.9 million) has been allocated towards the National health mission and Rs. 1,500 crore (US$ 175.8 million) has been allocated towards shahid veernarayan singh ayushman swasthya yojana.
- Rs. 23,357 crore (US$ 2.80 billion) was allocated towards agriculture and allied industries, out of which Rs. 10,000 crore (US$ 1.20 billion) was allocated towards the Krushak Unnati Yojana.
- On October 1, 2024, the Centre approved Rs. 11,000 crore (US$ 1.32 billion) for the development of four major national highways in Chhattisgarh, with Union Minister Mr. Nitin Gadkari directing the forest department to expedite clearances and resolve project delays, aiming to enhance the state's infrastructure and support industrial growth.
- On July 18, 2024, the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Mr. Vishnu Deo Sai met the Hon’ble Minister of Railways, Information & Broadcasting, Electronics & Information Technology, Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw to discuss key railway projects, including the Dharamjaigarh-Pathalgaon-Lohardaga line for better connectivity with Jharkhand, the long-demanded Ambikapur-Barwadih line, the Kharsia-New Raipur-Parmalkasa line for coal transport, and the Rowghat-Jagdalpur line to support tribal economic development. Vaishnaw assured swift implementation of these initiatives.
- On February 25, 2024, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for various development projects in Chhattisgarh, totalling Rs. 34,400 crores (US$ 4.12 billion) under the 'Viksit Bharat, Viksit Chhattisgarh' initiative. These projects span sectors such as roads, railways, coal, power, and solar energy, aimed at empowering farmers, youth, and women in the state.
- The Chhattisgarh government has decided to launch a new scheme called 'Krishak Unnati Yojana' from the Kharif season 2023-24, under which farmers will be provided input assistance at the rate of Rs 19,257 (US$ 230) per acre on the basis of paddy purchased from them, aimed at increasing their income, crop production and productivity and reducing the cost of cultivation.

- In the last four years, the state received investment proposals of more than Rs. 90,000 crore (US$ 10.94 billion) and a capital investment of Rs. 4,126 crore (US$ 501.8 million) for establishing new units.
- Under the State Budget 2023-24, Rs. 4,845 crore (US$ 589.2 million) was allocated for roads and bridges.
- Under State Budget 2023-24, Rs. 4,344 crore (US$ 528.3 million) was allocated for urban development, out of which Rs. 1,596 crore (US$ 194.1 million) was allocated towards capital outlay for urban development.
- As announced in September 2023, the Government of Chhattisgarh has planned to develop an Aerocity near Swami Vivekananda Airport in Nava Raipur to facilitate international aviation connectivity. The objective of the initiative is to promote passenger facilities and commercial development in the airport region with international standards, while also creating jobs for the locals.
- In September 2023, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi dedicated rail sector projects worth around Rs. 6,350 crore (US$ 762.7 million) in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh. The projects include Chhattisgarh East Rail Project Phase-I, the third rail line between Champa to Jamga, the third rail line between Pendra Road to Anuppur, and an MGR (Merry-Go-Round) system connecting Talaipalli Coal Mine to NTPC Lara Super Thermal Power Station.
- In July 2023, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi inaugurated the construction of three National Highway projects for the Chhattisgarh section of the six-lane Greenfield Raipur-Visakhapatnam corridor. These projects included a 2.8 km long, six-lane tunnel equipped with 27 animal passes and 17 monkey canopies in the Udanti Wildlife Sanctuary area, allowing unhindered movement of wildlife.
- The Chhattisgarh Health and Family Welfare Minister announced that all tests, treatment, and medicines will be free at government-run health facilities in Chhattisgarh for the state's residents from June 1, 2023.
Chhattisgarh offers a compelling growth and investment landscape, underpinned by strong GSDP expansion, surplus power availability, and a rich mineral base. Robust infrastructure development across roads, railways, and highways, along with policy-driven ease of doing business, is strengthening industrial competitiveness. Rising exports, leadership in mining and power generation, and focused investments in agriculture, healthcare, and human development are supporting inclusive growth. With efficient governance, expanding connectivity, and sectoral strengths in minerals, energy, agro-processing, and apparel, Chhattisgarh is well positioned for sustained and diversified economic development.
