Hindalco Industries plans to invest Rs.800 crore (US$ 96.14 million) in a new plant near Sambalpur, Odisha, to expand its aluminium foil production for EV batteries and energy storage systems. The plant will initially produce 25,000 tonnes of high-quality aluminium foil used in Lithium-ion and Sodium-ion cells.

As announced in October 2023, in a significant move to bolster Odisha's commitment to deliver long term raw material security for sustainable business, the Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) and Hindalco Industries Limited, have come together to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Long-Term Linkage of Raw Material for Hindalco Alumina Refinery at Kanshariguda, Rayagada.
